Ambled Mini V (iC cA)

EJC Ovar, August 2024

Pattern type: takeout

Ambled Mini V is the first pattern to add an extra club to Wiebke’s Mini Scrambled family of patterns, specifically to Mini V (#6). Since it is shorter than a “full” Ambled pattern and has an easier feeding sequence, we might start recommending Mini Ambleds to people who want to start learning manipulation patterns with double passes.

Similar to how there exist more than 27 Ambled patterns, there should also be more than 6 “Mini Ambleds”. Does anyone want to find them all? 🙂

Base pattern

To transform the 9 club base pattern to 10 clubs, we apply the same idea as when going from Scrambleds to Ambleds: Turn every 3p into a 4p, add an extra beat at the end where A does an extra pass to C, and have B do a double self while walking over to the other side.

In the resulting base pattern, the 2-count passing sequence is now “left, left, right, right, right”, and B’s walk happens on a 6-count. The pattern repeats after only 5 beats (which is 2 fewer than for regular Ambled patterns).

(At first I was tempted to remove a beat rather than add one, but this makes it very hard to fit any manipulation sequence, unless you embrace this problem and create a whole new kind of pattern by accident.)

Manipulation

For Ambled Mini V, the self while walking across is intercepted (beat 2), and the first pass of the passing sequence is carried (beat 4), so what the jugglers actually pass is “left, right, right, right” on 2-count.

To allow M to catch the intercepted pelf in time, I recommend throwing the double self already on beat 4 before starting to walk.
